Start Menu X: Get Start Menu and Button in Windows 8

We already know that Microsoft has removed Start Menu and Start Button from Windows 8 and added the new Start Screen instead which is more powerful when compared with Start Menu. It is true that Start Menu gives us quick access to all programs and commands but Microsoft has completely changed this concept in Windows 8. Now you have to access all the programs and files directly from Windows 8 Start Screen itself. I also found that in Windows 8, power options are not easy to access and users need to go to Charms Bar > Settings to get options like Power Off, Restart, Sleep and Hibernate. A huge chunk of Windows users are fond of the old school Start Menu and still want to use Start Button and Start Menu in Windows 8 after Windows 7 but Microsoft has not provided any alternative option to disable Start Screen and get the Start Menu back. In this blog, I have published many applications and tricks like Start8, Launchy, Handy Start Manu, and more to bring the Start Menu back in Windows 8. Today, I am going to review yet another handy application Start Menu X which is an excellent Start Menu alternative to use in Windows 8. Start Menu X is the ultimate software and it runs on Desktop as well as touch screen computers. When you download it and start the installation process, it will ask you to select the installation for Mouse or Touch Screen. Majority of users have simple desktop screens so select the Mouse option and install the application.

Start Menu X has different types of Start Button skins like Angry Birds, Windows 7, Apple and Windows 8 Color Start Orb. You can disable the Start Button anytime and will be able to access the Star Menu by using Start Menu X System Tray Icon. To enable the Start Button again, just right-click on the Start Menu X System Tray icon and enable it. You can choose any of the available skins by right-clicking on Start Button > again Start Button > Start Button Skins. As you can see in the image below, I have chosen Angry Birds.

I personally examined all the features of Start Menu X and it works flawlessly on Windows 8 but lacks some features which you can only find in its pro version. Start Menu X is available in two versions, free and paid. The free version has all the basic features while the paid version of Start Menu X will give you some extra features. You can use its free version and if you are not satisfied with it and want to go for the pro version then you can buy it online.
